Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Ecosystem and Resources

Working Group discussing Goal 14 “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”

The workshop on Education for SDG Goal 14 (E-SDG14) seeks to deliberate about key educational issues, challenges and opportunities for addressing the specific targets outlined under SDG Goal 14 and look at GAP Priority Action Areas as a strategy within this framework.

It will attempt to facilitate viewpoints about Education - particularly its perspective, content and process to be relevant to people’s lives, to the stakeholders along the coastal areas and islands, and those utilizing and managing the ocean, coastal and marine resources. How do we nurture citizen participation towards learning about sustainable solutions to their contemporary problems of the coastal and marine areas?

The session panellists and experts would share their learnings of the experiences while working with coastal and marine environmental issues, communities, public-policy, government, institutional structures, citizen action strategies and mass media. This would be followed by open forum and group work to arrive at broad learnings/recommendations. Posters and presentations, including sharing of cases studies from participants may also be explored.
